Project Overview
Project Description:
This enabling works project for Alba Power involved the deconstruction of a compressor, exhaust stack and demolition of an area to slab level at their Carnforth Compressor Station.
This complex project was undertaken with precision to ensure the live site, the workforce and the structures to remain, were kept safe.
The client initially disconnected the services supplied to the units being removed before we carefully unbolted sections of the exhaust stack from the main building to be retained. The stack, outlet and inlet vents were progressively deconstructed and lifted from the site onto a low loader with a MEWP supporting the lift process.
The gas compressor requiring removal and salvage was located within the heart of the live site, housed within a secure canopy. The canopy was deconstructed section by section to expose the turbine to allow for its removal and travel to its next location. Advanced demolition techniques were used to ensure the compressor’s safe removal such as hold point shearing. We also fabricated the lifting points installed onto the compressor frame for ease of transfer onto the low loader.
The final stage of the enabling works was to demolish the residual items to slab level, disposing and recycling of the materials and to protect all voids.
